The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has created a new forum to improve the safety of all road users across the UK.
According to Kevin Clinton, RoSPA's head of road safety, the RoADAR initiative is predominantly aimed at motorcyclists, with a number of reckless habits causing the majority of traffic accidents involving this group each year, including excessive speed and failing to look before manoeuvring.<!–more–>
He commented: "These are not just benign bad habits; they cause many thousands of accidents on our roads. But they are habits that can be overcome. "
He added that all road users should continue learning about road safety throughout their lives, as they should not simply believe they are fully proficient in all aspects of riding or driving after they have passed their test.
The news follows the confirmation of tough new penalties for individuals who are found to have taken drugs while in charge of a vehicle, with figures from driving safety charity Brake revealing 18 per cent of those killed each year in vehicle accidents have trace amounts of illegal drugs in their bloodstream.
