The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) is calling on the government to rethink the design of crash barriers on the UK's roads in order to improve safety for motorcyclists.
According to the organisation, the country's barriers are designed solely with cars in mind and therefore, should a biker have an accident that involves a crash barrier these structures can do more harm than good.
IAM director of policy and research Neil Greig said: "Modifications are happening across Europe as governments recognise exactly how dangerous they are. Last year deaths and injuries of motorcyclists increased in the UK, so we must do more to protect them."
He added that by simply covering posts in the barriers, many motorcyclists could be saved from serious injury or worse.
Earlier this month, the IAM advised all road users on the dangers of icy conditions over the coming winter months, calling on all road users to take extra care when out and about in order to avoid skids and crashes.
