The brake control systems are individually tuned for each model series and pushed to their physical limits. Christoph B\u00f6hm, Head of Brake Control Systems at Mercedes-Benz AG, explained that the team is working towards a new generation of stability control systems that use the properties of the electric drive to control the torque at the wheels precisely.Most drivers might never notice how hard their Mercedes-Benz vehicle works to keep them out of dangerous situations. However, for B\u00f6hm and his team, this is the definition of a job well done. The team is focused on creating a safer, more efficient, and more comfortable driving experience for all drivers.Since Mercedes-Benz established the test facility near Arjeplog, the vehicles have changed significantly. However, the reasons for testing in these extreme conditions remain the same. The grip level on ice and snow is up to 90% lower than on dry asphalt. These differences significantly impact the stability and controllability of a vehicle, especially during acceleration, stopping, and changing direction.One advantage of testing in the Arctic Circle is that the weather conditions and surfaces remain relatively constant throughout the winter. The test vehicles are equipped with standard all-season or winter tyres, reflecting the everyday usage behaviour of customers.
