It’s the news Merc-SUV enthusiasts have been waiting for: the new Mercedes-Benz GLS is now available to order ahead of the first deliveries this autumn.
This imposing update on the Mercedes GL-Class that was first introduced back in 2012 is the largest and most luxurious SUV the brand has ever offered. In short, it simply provides more of everything: space, comfort and opulence.
The result is the only European premium full-size SUV with seven seats across three rows, maximum space and a great ride quality whether you’re on or off the road.
Each fully electrically adjustable seat row means all passengers are treated to plenty of legroom and comfort, while the seats in the third row can be lowered into the floor for more boot space when they’re not around and the second row can also be folded flat.
Up front, the new nose brings the GLS in line with the rest of the range thanks to its branded and distinctive radiator grille.
Under the bonnet, there’s a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine to produce 330 hp and 700 Nm of torque, meaning drivers can launch this beast from nought to 62 in 6.3 seconds. Emissions are also improved compared to its predecessor at 208 g/km of carbon dioxide.
As standard, the GLS AMG Line Premium model will come with a range of features including MBUX Interior Assistant, heated front and rear seats, parking assist with a 360-degree camera, Magic Vision Control and an automatic sliding panoramic roof.
If you fancy adding more, the Premium Plus range provides extras like augmented reality, massage functions in the seats and even a temperature-controlled cup holder to keep your Starbucks warm.
And for an extra £1,495, the vehicle can be upgraded to the Off Road package, which includes fully-variable all-wheel drive, torque-on-demand, low-range off-road gearing and Downhill Speed Regulation.
Prices start from £73,995 on the road for the GLS 400 d AMG Line Premium, so you might want to start saving up now.
