Mercedes-AMG E 53 4Matic+ coming July

Mercedes-Benz’s AMG performance division has had its wicked way with the E-Class and the resulting car is something special.

Available from July, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 4Matic+ can bolt from rest to 62mph in 4.5 seconds, with speed electronically limited to 155mph.

Performance

Under the bonnet is AMG’s new three-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine, producing 429bhp and 520 Nm, but the car’s EQ Boost technology provides an additional 22bhp and 250 Nm.

Fitted between the engine and transmission, the EQ Boost starter-alternator enhances driving performance while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. This means that it can deliver up to 32.5 mpg on the combined cycle and emit 200 g/km.

For such a performance-focused car, that kind of economy isn’t bad at all and while all this may sound exciting, the automatic E 63 is nippier, hitting 62mph in 3.4 seconds.

Bodystyles

Available in both saloon and estate bodystyles, the E 53 is automatic only, with the engine coming linked to AMG’s Speedshift TCT 9G transmission. This makes shift times extremely short while providing fast shift paddle responses, a double-declutching function and multiple downshifts.

The interior

Equipment-wise, this excitable E-Class is well kitted-out, coming with a 12.3-inch infotainment display, 12.3-inch cockpit display, multibeam LED intelligent light system, wireless phone charging and an all-round camera while the front seats and steering column are electrically adjustable.

The interior features luxurious black nappa leather upholstery with red contrast stitching, while the back-end of the car is finished off by a boomy AMG performance exhaust.

Price

Available to order right now, prices for the E 53 saloon start from £61,835, climbing to £63,835 for the estate.
