The first GT race of 2016 has seen another strong performance by the McLaren 650S GT3 supported by Clearwater Racing. A dramatic three-hour race in Sepang, saw the McLaren take a position on the podium and meant the team led the team and driver championships.

Factory Driver Rob Bell and teammates Mok Weng Sun and Keita Sawa ended the racing season with an impressive three pole positions and two wins.

“We all knew going in to the final race that the race would be a challenge, and the grid was the biggest and most competitive it had been all season, but everyone focused on what they had to do,” explained Bell.

He added: “The 650S GT3 has been bulletproof in terms of reliability in some of the most challenging conditions over the season, and it has been the car to beat at every round.”

The result means Clearwater Racing get an automatic invite to this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

There are some differences between the racing-ready McLaren 650S GT3 and its street version. The major change is the altered suspension geometry, as well as larger air intakes and a fixed carbon-fiber rear wing to improve aerodynamics on the track.
