What you’re seeing here is Lamborghini’s idea of an electric super sportscar. The Terzo Millennio concept was unveiled at MIT’s (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) EmTech conference, as a result of a partnership between Lamborghini and MIT.

The Terzo Millennio is the first sign of electrification from the Italian carmakers.  The concept has a number of spectacular features, but the one that stands out is its ability to heal itself. That’s right, the carbon fiber body can detect minor cracks and heal itself using liquid filled micro-channels.

So where does MIT come in to all of this?

Conventional batteries aren’t enough to power a supercar of this magnitude for long, therefore MIT and Lamborghini are collaborating towards supercapacitors to power the Terzo Millennio. The clever body will also be a source of power, with panels acting as improvised energy storage, in order to be as efficient as possible.

The chemistry Professor of MIT, Mircea Dinca mentions in a statement: ‘’The new Lamborghini collaboration allows us to be ambitious and think outside the box in designing new materials that answers energy storage challenges for the demands of an electric sports vehicle.’’

There was no mention of power output from Lamborghini. However, we do know that the Terzo Millennio will be AWD, with electric motors powering each wheel, all capable of delivering variable amounts of torque.

We know that electric supercars are capable of incredible power and torque, and we’re pretty sure the Terzo Millennio, along with the impressive tech and that sharp aerodynamic body will have some truly mesmerising numbers as more is revealed over the course of the next few years.
