Fans of Japanese car makers would have been in their element at the weekend (August 3rd) as the National Motor Museum played host to the Simply Japanese event.
More than 430 cars crafted by the likes of Toyota, Subaru, Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi, Datsun and Lexus turned up to the show. These included a mixture of classic cars up to the latest models.
A number of clubs also came to the event to show off their cars. These included MX-5 Drivers, Skyline, Ultimate GTO, Z Club, GT86, Subaru Legacy, Dorset Japanese, Nissan Sportz, Ultimate GTO, MR2, Duke Owners, Civinfor and Ultimate Japanese clubs.
Events manager at Beaulieu Judith Maddox said: “We were delighted with the turnout for this event with number of vehicles and owners up on last year … The lovely weather also meant that participants could enjoy a relaxing day with an opportunity to visit the whole Beaulieu attraction as well as take part in the event.”
As well as enjoying the vehicles that were on show, visitors were also encourage to vote for their favourite in the People’s Choice Awards. The winner was a 1995 Nissan Skyline GT-R33, which was owned by Dan Smart from Poole. Mr Poole got the car two years ago and since then has worked to completely rebuild it. The engine was raised from 300 hp to 500 hp, had a fibreglass body kit added and was painted in Special Edition Midnight Purple.
For winning the award, Mr Poole was given a Beaulieu trophy as well as an Autoglym Professional Valet Pack, which was presented to him by managing director of Beaulieu Russel Bowman.
The Skyline then lead a parade of vehicles that had proved the most popular among visitors as they drove around the National Motor Museum grounds, showing off a variety of fine examples of the marques that had come to the event.
This year’s Simply Japanese event is the third that has been hosted at the grounds, the fourth event will be held on August 2nd 2015.
