The Jaguar XJ is coming back, and this time its electric

Rumours of an all-electric XJ have been flying around for the last few years, but we finally have confirmation from Jaguar themselves that it’s really happening! It’s also happening sooner than you might have thought, as it has been confirmed for 2020.

This reinvented offering will be as luxurious and sleek as you have come to expect from cars by this premium brand, with the new XJ being even more practical with a smart 5 door layout.

Jaguar is investing heavily in this project and has partnered with BMW to develop electric powertrains, basing the XJ on their 5th-gen eDrive tech.

Hoping to take on rivals including the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Jaguar’s new electric saloon is going to be based on a new Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) which they will be designing and engineering in-house.

The team that brought you the i-Pace is back to create this new EV

The same specialists that worked on the i-Pace will be designing and engineering the new XJ, with this being a great chance for Jaguar to showcase both style and technology.

As well as the i-Pace, Jaguar have in the past electrified the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport plug-in hybrids, however this new model will be the first electric model ever produced at the plant.

The plant itself is at Castle Bromwich in England where at the moment the XE, XF, XJ, and F-type are crafted, but this base now needs to be converted to accommodate electric vehicle production.

More EVs means more jobs, and since the plan seems to be to offer electrified options for all new Jaguar and Land Rover models from 2020, this can only be good news.

For more than 50 years, the XJ has been their flagship model and whilst some may miss the internal-combustion XJ, many are excited about this new era of electric.

Well it seems electric is now the future, might as well get on board big time as the internal combustion engine is begining to be phased out anyway. No point in being the last one to the party playing catch up .
If the current i-pace is anything to go by then Jaguar don’t have anything to worry about ! Just keep those beautifully designed cars coming .
