Jaguar has been on a hot streak of late in terms of new models, with the 3 Series-rivalling XE, its big brother – the XF – as well as the F-Pace, its first ever SUV.
All three have been massive hits with critics and customers, and now, the arrival of a new advanced and efficient petrol engine option is set to ignite sales and praise once again.
The 296bhp, two-litre, four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine is already available in the magnificent F-Type sports car and has been rolled out to the aforementioned models, linked to an advanced ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, in a bid to achieve new levels of performance and efficiency.
Strong numbers
In the F-Pace, which was named 2017’s World Car of the Year in April, it can complete the benchmark 0-62mph sprint in six seconds flat, yet return 37mpg combined when driven more forgivingly.
For the XF, hitting 62mph is possible in 5.6 seconds while achieving 40mpg at 163g/km of CO2. The smaller XE goes one better with 5.6 seconds, 41.5mpg and 157g/km.
Granted, there are more powerful and bank balance-friendly rivals available, but this balancing act of performance and efficiency is a masterstroke of engineering from Jaguar Land Rover.
Nick Rogers, who has been the group’s executive director of product engineering since 2015, commented: “We continue to broaden the range of our Ingenium engine family, giving customers more choice than ever before.
“Our new 296bhp petrol engine provides the performance synonymous with Jaguar, while delivering enhanced fuel economy thanks to its state-of-the-art exhaust technology and pioneering valve train design.
“This clean and more efficient engine perfectly complements the advanced lightweight aluminium body structure of our XE, XF and F-Pace models.”
Prices for this new variant of the XE start from £38,145 on-the-road, £44,335 for the XF and £44,760 for the F-Pace. All are available to order now.
