Jaguar XE SV Project 8 named world’s fastest production sedan!
Saloon cars aren’t usually lauded for their performance, but not every saloon is the Jaguar XE SV Project 8, which has just been confirmed as the world’s fastest production sedan after clocking a new lap record in the States.
Performance and Specifications
Hailed as the quickest, most powerful road-legal Jaguar ever, the XE SV Project 8 uses a 591bhp supercharged V8 petrol engine, linked to an eight-speed Quickshift automatic ZF transmission. This means it can go 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 200mph!
It’s stats like this that helped racing driver Randy Pobst complete a lap of the 2.2-mile course at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, California, in 1min 37.54sec in the Project 8 – almost a second faster than the previous production sedan record.
This comes after the super saloon took just 7min 21.23sec to get around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in November 2017, setting a new production sedan lap record in the process.
Michael van der Sande, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, commented: “This Laguna Seca lap record is another powerful demonstration of the Jaguar XE SV Project 8’s performance credentials.” He also commented: “Designed, engineered and hand-assembled by Special Vehicle Operations, this record-breaking sedan is made for the world’s most demanding driving enthusiasts.”
Interior
Project 8 will be available with two or four seats, with each boasting different spec. The standard four-seat model comes with Jaguar’s latest front Performance seats with magnesium frames, plus a more heavily contoured rear squab to maximise support.
Meanwhile, the optional two-seat Track Pack includes lightweight front carbon fibre racing seats with four-point harnesses fixed to a harness retention hoop in place of the rear seat.
Availability and Price
Production of the XE SV Project 8 will be limited to 300 units, all of which are hand-built at Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations in Coventry. Prices start from £149,995 in the UK and anyone with that kind of dough can gain further info here.
