It has been revealed that production of Jaguar’s V6 and V8 engines will no longer be with Ford’s Bridgend, Wales plant.

That’s right, these incredible engines are not in fact made by Jaguar, instead a deal was made between Ford and JLR which is to come to an end in September 2020, three months earlier than planned.

Jaguar may be making the move to their own engine plant in the West Midlands, which has been already heavily invested in and expanded, rather than having engines built at Ford’s dedicated facility.

The end of an era for the V6/V8 Jaguar engine

The contractual agreement between Jaguar Land Rover and Ford Motor Company has been in place for 9 years regarding the supply of 6 and 8-cylinder petrol engines. Following the announcement that the Ford engine deal is to stop within 3 years, it makes you wonder whether Jaguar will be looking elsewhere for deliveries or if they will indeed take things in-house.

At the moment, Jaguar engines count for one fifth of the Bridgend plant’s output with around 145,000 of the 659,000 engines destined for one of Jaguar’s luxury cars. Fifty percent of workers there are dedicated solely to the production of those engines and at its highest point two years ago, 500,000 Jaguar engines were sent out from this particular facility.

So, it seems this really is the end of our beloved Jaguar V6 and V8’s, however a modular inline-six could be on the horizon, so all hope is not yet lost. Some of the best V6/V8 Jaguars include the F-Pace S, F-Type SVR, XE S and the XF.

Jaguar is our largest, and perhaps best, car manufacturer and we are sure that there are plenty more fantastic, beautiful cars coming our way, even without the engines we know and love.
