Jaguar has finally unveiled its new compact SUV: the E-Pace. With a name like that, it doesn’t take a genius to work out the car serves as a smaller sibling to the F-Pace, which became Jaguar’s first ever SUV when it launched last year.
Priced from £28,500, the E-Pace will be the first Jag to exclusively feature Jaguar Land Rover’s efficient yet powerful Ingenium petrol and diesel engines; the punchiest of which can clear a 0-60mph sprint in 5.9 seconds.
It comes packed with loads of tech, such as a 4G Wi-Fi spot that can handle up to eight devices simultaneously, as well as a 10-inch touchscreen and a new head-up display.
True to Jaguar form, the car wasn’t revealed with the drop of a veil. Oh no, instead, it set a world record for the furthest barrel roll in a production vehicle (15.3 metres with a 270-degree corkscrew-like tumble).
You can watch the stunt here, but what did the internet make of the E-Pace and its acrobatic antics?
Top Gear editor Charlie Turner was quick to poke fun at the one-man-upmanship that has developed between sister brands Jaguar and Land Rover in recent years…

Something that was instantly picked up by the online public was its somewhat uncanny resemblance to a distinctly less premium model: the Suzuki Swift.
There’s something about the E-Pace really reminds me of the new Swift. Or is it just me? pic.twitter.com/leI53wbCRI

I think the E-Pace looks really cool, but I also can’t help seeing some similarity here. Is it just me? pic.twitter.com/5WO5nonjqy

This self-confessed ‘lover of Jaguar Land Rover’ doesn’t seem to care’ he reckons it “looks awesome!”

Chas Hallett, once Autocar’s editor in chief, isn’t quite as impartial now he’s JLR’s head or corporate PR, but regardless, he found beauty at the back and we’re of a similar feeling.

One of the guys lucky enough to attend the E-Pace’s reveal event noted the adorable baby cub, trailing a prowling jag. Symbolic much?
This is the cute Jaguar and cub etched on the #epace windscreen. The E-Pace was code named Cub, and is the baby of the range! pic.twitter.com/fbjwjvnoyc

This self-described ‘professional car designer’ didn’t think much to Jaguar’s interior styling, going on to slate the exterior as ‘unimaginative’
@IAmSimonHarris Mmmh… Jaguar definitely needs some interior designers. pic.twitter.com/zTR8DjvhAS

Like the latest #Jaguar a lot: it’s an unimaginative, but very well executed design job,I can’t fault it. The interior could be better though pic.twitter.com/fCsZUvEkuk

One Twitter user reckons Jaguar’s model naming approach has become somewhat messy and confusing now.
The Jaguar crossover naming system could get pretty confusing soon. The I-Pace is an EV and the E-Pace is an ICE car…

Regardless, US-based Car and Driver rates the E-Pace to charge to the front of the premium compact SUV pack.
