The HSCC (Historic Sports Car Club) organises a full season of historic races at many of the UK’s top race circuits, with some international races thrown in for good measure.
Back in 1966 a small group of enthusiasts created the HSCC as they were frustrated that the lack of historic racing meant that our rich racing heritage was diminishing. While they started out running the odd race at other people’s events, with the first race being won at Castle Combe by a Jaguar D-Type, the club has grown year on year.
These days the HSCC are probably the biggest organiser of historic racing in the UK and as such are largely responsible for a chunk of our heritage being preserved for us all to enjoy. Since 1966 they have continued to add more and more racing classes and encompass more and more historic vehicles. Although modifications are allowed they have to be in the spirit of what was achievable at the time the cars were originally racing. No getting the running gear out of your Nissan GTR and trying to stuff it into your Austin Healey for a competitive advantage. Here at Motor-Vision we like this philosophy and admire the folks up at the HSCC for helping to preserve these incredible cars for future generations to see.
While it is often a nice day out to go to a motor show or museum and seeing these classic racers up close, there is nothing that can replace seeing them over-taking a competitor while sliding sideways at 100mph on the inside line through a corner. It is what they were designed to do and I for one am glad that so many people take the time and effort, as well as spending their hard earned cash, on keeping the spirit of these wonderful classics going.
