Toyota have teased the release of their performance hot hatch Yaris ahead of its official release at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Although it isn’t much, it gives us an idea of how the car will look and we think it looks promising.
WRC inspiration
I guess it isn’t a huge surprise to see the Toyota making a hot hatch version of Yaris, as they have recently entered into the World Rally Championships for the upcoming 2017 season with a bonkers WRC version of the Yaris, as you can see above.
And the hot hatch Yaris will have some similar features to the WRC beast, including a central exhaust, a much toned down spoiler and colour scheme. I’m sure when we receive more information on the car there will be more similarities, but for the time being we’ll have to stick to the minor details.
A lot of power
It’s also believed that new Yaris will have front-wheel drive with a 1.5 litre engine. One thing we do know for sure is that the Yaris hot hatch will produce more than 210bhp, which will make it one of the fastest in its class.
0-60mph is expected to be around 6 seconds which will also make it faster than its competitors. This will make the Yaris faster than its main competitors such as the Ford Fiesta ST and Mini Cooper S.
But will this be enough to make people buy the Yaris over the Fiesta ST or the Mini S? It’s a big ask.
New Yaris Range
The introduction of the hot hatch Yaris comes alongside Toyota’s update their whole Yaris range, with a facelift and an updated chassis. Toyota will be hoping that this will be enough for the Yaris to be taken seriously alongside the big boys of the hatchback world.
