When a new generation car launches, you can bet your house on the fact that it will be refreshed, facelifted or updated within three or four years.
These mid-life facelift exercises vary wildly in intensity, so when refresh time rolled around for the BMW 2 Series Coupé and Convertible, we prayed any changes wouldn’t ruin what was already a very handsome hatchback.
Luckily, you’d be hard pressed to spot the differences between the original 2 Series and the updated model. Sighs of relief all round.
What’s new?
Looks-wise, the front-end of the 2 Series now features new bi-LED headlights as standard with BMW’s new hexagonal lighting signature, while buyers have the choice of upgrading to adaptive full LED headlights. There’s a new wider kidney grille too, making the car look more menacing. Certain 2 Series models get new air intakes on the front apron too.
Around the back, you’ll find new LED taillights and the car itself is now available in three new colours – sunset orange, seaside blue and the darker Mediterranean blue – as well as with new alloy wheel options, upping design and colour combinations to 17.
Inside, the cabin features a new black instrument panel and new air vents, while the centre console gets a black high-gloss finish.
Also included is BMW’s updated 8.8-inch iDrive system, making several connected services available including real time on-street parking information and traffic data.
The engine range remains unchanged with three, four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel units available.
Prices for the updated 2 Series have yet to be made official, but we wouldn’t expect any major changes to the current pricing, which starts at £23,530 for the 218i SE Coupé, rising to £35,865 for the M240i.
