The Javelin AMC may not initially spring to mind when you think of classic American muscle cars, but time, a good helping of on-trend seventies nostalgia plus a Ringbrothers conversion has certainly brought this car to life. So say hello to the V8-powered Javelin AMX Defiant! (exclamation mark compulsory).
Ringbrothers have used copious amounts of carbon fibre to smooth out the contentious lines that set the AMC apart from the likes of the Ford Mustang, making the car far easier on the eye.
Jim and Mike Ring have a long history of tampering with cars, they started out altering the bodywork and paint of cars in the basement of their parent’s house before they had even become teenagers. Now, as Ringbrothers, they operate out of Spring Green, Wisconsin in the American mid-west as a crash repair shop – but they have also built a fine reputation for putting together wild street machine side-projects using the best quality industry leading automotive parts and crafted billet aluminium and carbon fibre bodies.
The Defiant! is their latest extreme creation, and very beautiful it is too with the car’s new curves finished in a striking metallic gold/yellow and black. It’s not just for show though, as this carbon bodied muscle car from 1972 now packs 1,036bhp thanks to a supercharged 6.2 litre Hemi taken from a Challenger Hellcat, Dodge’s way over-the-top muscle car for the modern age. The Dodge engine wasn’t quite powerful enough for Ringbrothers though, only giving 707bhp. This was remedied by replacing the existing supercharger with a 4.5 litre unit from Whipple, the Californian company owned by the much-respected Art Whipple. Whipple has years of experience in making superchargers to street, race and dragster specifications.
Bowler Transmissions in Illinois were designated with the task of handling the Javelin AMX Defiant!’s transmission – the ‘driving force’ of the car – and they make sure all that power is handled efficiently and safely. A Flowmaster side exhaust plays its part too as well as looking good. Wheels are some detailed HRE alloys coupled with Baer performance stopping power.
Ringbrothers unveiled the Defiant! At the recent SEMA show in Las Vegas amid much jaw dropping approval from the lucky few there to see it in the flesh. The Defiant!’s impressive look doesn’t stop at the exterior and engine though, the interior has been well thought out as well, with white seats making a striking contrast to the mainly black interior and subtle metallic trim. A Kicker stereo and USB port are reminders that this is far away from being a stock ’72 Javelin AMC.
