Goodwood Motor Circuit will play host to a race between budding engineers from all over the world on October 12th.

Goodwood Goes Green

The Greenpower Education Trust charity has assembled over 100 teams of young people as part of its first ever International Final. Entrants range from secondary school up to graduate level and will compete in three of the charity’s race categories.

Overseeing the competition to become the overall winner of the three categories will be chairman of Aston Martin and Prodrive and Earl of March Patrons David Richards CBE. His motor show, Goodwood Festival of Speed, is the top one in the UK.

The three categories open to students are Greenpower’s IET Formula 24 for 11 to 16 year olds, IET Formula 24+ for entrants between 16 and 25 years of age and the Siverline Corporate Challenge categories.

One group to watch will be Team USE, which is a project backed by Siemens. The electronics giant is a partner and supporter of Greenpower’s work. Other teams come from such countries as South Africa, Poland, Portugal and the Republic of Ireland.

Chief executive officer of Greenpower Jeremy Way said: “The International Final is the culmination of the last year of competition across our various classes. This year, the event is going to be bigger and better than ever, with the National Final for UK entrants being joined by teams coming from outside the UK for the first time.”

As well as the races, Mr Way promises that there will be plenty for visitors to do away from the track so that they can enjoy a family day out.

Earlier this year, Greenpower’s initiative was made the official education partner for the 2014 FIA Formula E Championship. In each of the cities that Formula E visits between January and June 2015, Greenpower will be working with schools and running support races at each round of the championship.

In fact, the Formula E support race car will be on display as part of a Science and Engineering Fair at the International Final.
