This year’s Goodwood event was another great one and we’re here to share some of the highlights of the event, in case you missed them. So, where do we start? The brand new McLaren Senna was shown off a good bit at this year’s event. The latest in the line of superb McLaren supercars that seem to be being endlessly chugged out of the factory. Packed with 789 hp and 800 NM of torque, this thing apparently makes a 720S seem slow. The Senna is (obviously) named after the late Ayrton Senna and was made in honour of his accomplishments with the McLaren Formula One team. One big talking point of the event was the new Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign. Making its world debut at Goodwood, this motor is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the original GT-R and Italdesign. Some love it, some hate it, what’s your verdict?Moving slightly away from cars, did we mention there was a man flying around with a jetpack? The future is here! One of the themes of this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed was the celebration of Porsche’s 70th anniversary. There were a lot of Porches. If you’re a Porsche fan then look no further than Goodwood 2018. From the legendary 917 to Porsche’s 959 Rally racer, there were all sorts of sights to be seen.Yet another 2-wheeled hill climb attempt was made this year, this time in a Range Rover. However, this time around the car ended up parked against hay bales before it reached the finish line. A fail, but still mighty impressive. There were some autonomous cars in action this year. One being the “Roborace” that everyone seems to be talking about, and the other one being a Mustang fitted with self-driving capabilities. The Roborace looked cool but sounded awful and the Mustang didn’t seem to exceed 15 mph. There was a rather dangerous fire at one point, originating from a Lexus RC F GT3 being driven by racing veteran Scott Pruett. Unfortunately the fire managed to spread, leaving the car as a smouldering wreck after it had finally been extinguished. Thankfully no one was hurt and we’re certainly not saying this was one of the “best bits” by any means, but rather an alarming event that everyone was soon talking about.A 2004 V10 Williams-BMW FW26 F1 car made a spectacular appearance. As the 3.0L V10 filled the ears of the crowd, it cast a spell of nostalgia on all F1 fans and had us all thinking of “the good old days” of Formula One.Also, the crazy-looking Puma Gulf drag bike ripped up the tarmac to the delight of the crowd. Just look at that rear tyre, what a beast! It looks like a Smart car, but it drives and sounds like a supercar. What is it? The Aston Martin Cygnet of course. It’s got a wider modified wheelbase and a V8 engine, but it uses the same body as the Toyota IQ. Crazy! The McLaren 600LT made its world debut at Goodwood this year, complemented with some awesome doughnuts and some great burnouts. If you’re interested in reading more about the Roborace autonomous car then you can read more about it on our other, here.
