Now, Foxconn has announced the electric Model V pickup to sit alongside the company’s SUV named the Model C and its electric saloon car, the Model E.An interesting point to make here is that Foxconn intends all three of these electric vehicles to be sold by established automotive brands rather than be self-branded. The company’s 7-seater electric SUV for example, is to be produced for Yulon Motors and named the Luxgen n7 from 2023. Here in the UK, the Taiwanese company is mostly known for manufacturing the Apple iPhone, so it certainly knows about providing high quality products – Foxconn is in fact the biggest smartphone contract assembler in the world. Regarding the company’s automotive ambitions, Foxconn now plans to produce a line-up of buses and electric vehicles for established automotive brands straddled across North America and Europe as well as China.So that’s the background, but what is the Foxconn Model V pickup going to be like? It’s maybe a little early to know all that much right now, but we do know that Foxconn has begun building pickups in the USA at the Lordstown Motors factory in Ohio. Lordstown has plans to manufacture and sell pickups to the US market, but then in a slight change of plan, the company sold the factory to Foxconn who will now build the pickups for Lordstown.What we do know is that the Model V will be a 5-seater double-cab 4-wheel drive pickup with a towing capacity of up to 3 tonnes and the ability to carry a payload of 1 tonne. It will sit on the Foxconn Hon Hai Open Platform, which has the capability of being a flexible device for different model vehicles such as the Model E. Inside, the likelihood is that the 3 models that Foxconn has so far revealed will share the same type of layouts including an infotainment screen and system. It will also feature a tailgate able to be foot operated and digital wing mirrors.As for power and technical specs, Foxconn has only said that it intends to offer ranges from 186 miles up to an impressive 497 miles, plus electrical powertrains capable of anything from 134bhp right up to 858bhp.Given that we already know that Foxconn can happily sit in the background and make very high-quality products for known brands, the company’s reach into the automotive world should be an interesting progression.Images: https://www.foxconn.com/en-us/press-center/press-releases/latest-news/903"},{"@context":"https://schema.org/","@type":"BreadcrumbList
@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
