Lay your eyes on the first droolworthy car of 2018: the Fisker Emotion.
Fisker may be one of the lesser-known names in the electric car game compared to the headline-grabbing titan that is Tesla, but this all-electric supercar is sure to attract plenty of attention at this week’s Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
Were it just a concept, the design of this thing would pique visitors’ interest anyway, so the fact that this stunning GT-style car could be on UK roads by 2020 excites us very much.
Pictures released ahead of the Fisker Emotion’s reveal show off swooping lines and an unconventional grille that might as well not be there – maybe it serves a wider function but aesthetically, it feels kinda redundant and clumsy to us.
Around the back, there’s a svelte-looking rear end that has a heavy whiff of Aston Martin (where brand founder Henrik Fisker used to work).
Limited mileage range used to be a black cloud – forever dampening the electric car parade – but new electric cars are constantly stretching how far they can travel before needing a recharge and the Emotion certainly plays its part with a 400-mile range from a single charge.
Once it does run out of power, it can recharge its battery for another 125 miles in roughly nine minutes, which is absolute lightning compared to other electric models.
Think about it: if you rolled up at your forecourt of choice, pumped your petrol tank to the brim, meandered over which pre-packaged sandwich was the least revolving and paid for the lot, it would probably take about nine minutes, so yeah, impressive.
As self-driving cars continue to be a major talking point, the Emotion will come with LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors, which means it will support full autonomy, allowing semi-autonomous features such as self-parking, lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control.
There’s no word yet on performance, but with all-wheel-drive, we’d expect it to be racing up to 62mph in less than five seconds, easy.
In the US, you’ll be able to get one from $129,900 (£95,879) when it eventually goes on sale, which also hasn’t been made clear.
