Stunt driver Alastair Moffatt got behind the wheel of a Fiat 500 with a view to breaking a Guinness World Record at the 2015 Autosport International Racing Car Show.

Alastair-FiatDuring the Performance Car Show, Moffatt reclaimed the record he previously set for the Tightest Parallel Park. Now he is just waiting from confirmation from officials to show that he actually succeeded.

Moffatt used to hold the Guinness World Record for the Tightest Parallel Park, with 8.6 cm to spare. He also has the record for the Tightest Double Parallel Park and Tightest Triple Parallel Park.

For this stunt, Moffatt chose a Fiat 500C 1.2 Cult, which let him complete the parking manoeuvre where he slid between a Fiat 500 TwinAir 105 hp and a Fiat 500C Colour Therapy TwinAir 85hp. He had only 7.5 cm to spare.

All of the vehicles used came as standard and had received no modifications on the engines, gearboxes, brakes or chassis.

For Moffatt’s Fiat 500, the ESC had to be disconnected so that it could be controlled using a handbrake and its tyre pressures were also increased to that it was better equipped for the abrasive surface. To help with this extreme driving manoeuvre, Moffatt also added a steering knob.

Commenting on his success, Moffatt said: “It’s wonderful to have my record back! With the gap getting ever smaller, finding the right vehicle is increasingly important, so the light weight, agility, dimensions and parking-friendly shape of the FIAT 500 makes it perfect to getting into even the tightest parking spots.”

Aside from the Guinness World Record, Moffatt spent a lot of the time across the Autosport weekend, which ran from January 8th to 11th, performing a number of displays of precision driving.

Kate McLaren for Fiat UK explained that the company was delighted a Fiat 500 was chosen for the Guinness World Record. She said that it is not recommended that most drivers attempt such a manoeuvre but was pleased to find out just how manoeuvrable a Fiat 500 can be.
