Design Unveiling Hyundai’s All-Electric IONIQ 6

Hyundai has revealed the design for the latest model in its IONIQ EV line-up, the IONIQ 6.
Sharp and clean, the ‘Electrified Streamliner’ aims to combine function and aesthetics with
what they term an ‘Emotionally Efficient’ form.

A ‘human-centric’ (as opposed to non-human-centric?) design approach was taken, which
looks to appeal to the diverse lifestyle of customers. The car was constructed in line with the
theme of ‘Ethical Uniqueness’, which holds aesthetics and efficiency (and buzz words) as
core design tenets. Jokes aside, this looks like Hyundai’s approach to integrating
environmental responsibility into their design process in a way that doesn’t compromise on
style, something that many EVs struggle to do. The interior and exterior forms were
developed in parallel, with the car stretched at both ends to maximise interior space whilst
achieving its sleek silhouette.

The IONIQ 6 also lives up to the streamline descriptor from a technical perspective. The
vehicle holds the title of having Hyundai’s lowest drag coefficient at 0.21. This is facilitated
by the low nose, active front air flaps and wheel gap reducers. Hyundai’s devotion to
producing a truly aerodynamic vehicle extends to the car’s underside, which has a fully
covered undercarriage. This cohesion between all elements of the vehicle helps to reinforce
Hyundai’s vision for the IONIQ 6.

Ambient interior lighting is offered with a spectrum of 64 colours and 6 pre-selected dual
colour themes to choose from. These colour themes have been curated by colour experts.
Alongside the ‘cocoon-inspired’ interior, these features intend to make drivers and
passengers feel relaxed in a space that acts and feels personal to them. The interior is also
home to a modular dashboard with a 12-inch fully touch-sensitive infotainment display.

Those who are more environmentally conscious will be glad to hear that the IONIQ 6 takes a
more holistic approach to sustainability, with Hyundai’s commitment to ‘clean mobility
values’ extending beyond just the vehicle’s method of power. Both the interior and exterior
of the IONIQ 6 have been constructed using a range of sustainable materials. Pigment paint
recycled from old tires, and bamboo charcoal pigment paint has been used for the cladding
and body respectively. The seats have been assembled with eco-process leather and
recycled-PET fabric, while recycled fishing net has been used for the carpet.

The exact design features of the IONIQ 6 may vary depending on the trim and region.

A world premiere for the IONIQ 6 will take place in July, where we can expect Hyundai to
reveal the full specifications.
