Aggressive behaviour on the UK's roads is putting many people off driving altogether, according to new research.
A survey by Continental Tyres found that half of motorists no longer enjoy the driving experience and the prospect of encountering road rage is one of the reasons why.
It also discovered that one in three drivers expect to experience aggressive or intimidating behaviour by another person when using their car, while 15 per cent said they have got out of their vehicle to confront another motorist.
Tim Bailey, safety expert at the tyre manufacturer, described the findings as "shocking".
He added: "If motorists feel intimidated or angry they will lack concentration, increasing the danger for other road users, never mind not enjoying the driving experience."
More than 40 per cent of respondents to the survey admitted they can become angry when behind the wheel.
Continental has launched its new Courtesy Campaign in an attempt to encourage people to be more calm and considerate behind the wheel.
