The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has offered advice to vehicle owners to help them stay secure this winter.
According to the organisation, motorists should only park in well-lit, secure areas in order to reduce the likelihood of vehicle break-ins. Moreover, all valuables should be removed from the car or placed out of sight, either in the boot, beneath seats or in the glove compartment.
IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger said: "Christmas shopping brings with it countless stresses, but getting your car broken into is one you can avoid by remembering a few festive tips."
He added that the combination of cold weather and the distractions of the upcoming festive season can mean drivers become blase regarding security, but they should remain vigilant in order to have a merry Christmas and happy new year.
