Thousands of classic car owners across the UK could be unknowingly breaking the law when it comes to the paperwork for their beloved vehicles, it has been revealed.
Research carried out by Footman James has revealed up to 35 per cent of the UK's classic car owners may be unlawfully keeping their vehicle uninsured, as they have not registered for a Statutory Off Road Notice (SORN).
Andy Fairchild, Footman James' managing director, said: "A staggering eight per cent of those surveyed don't know what action they should take when they take their car off the road, so it is essential they understand and follow the correct procedure."
Vehicle owners should consider taking out a SORN if their classic car is likely to be off the road for some time and will be untaxed. Failure to do so can result in the vehicle being declared illegal and seized by the authorities.
