It’s arguable, but just maybe, there isn’t a more romantic, iconic car than the Ford Mustang; so for all those UK fans, to finally get one in right-hand drive is a bit of a dream.

Auto Express recently described the arrival of Mustang in the UK as “a bit of a performance bargain” with the V8 powered 412bhp classic Ford retailing at £33,995. As anyone who has been following this car will know, all versions arriving in the UK until now, have frustratingly been left-hand drive, so this is a breath of fresh air.

For the pure supercar performance freaks though, things have just got even better with the Sutton Bespoke tuning programme planning to offer a whopping 700bhp to a right-hand drive Mustang.

Sutton are offering three option packages to upgrade the UK Mustang. The CS350 gives you the 2.3 litre 4-cylinder Ecoboost engine with 330bhp, while the CS500 option offers a V8 and an increase in power to 440bhp.

But it’s the third option that is the most exciting. The CS700 – with the addition on top of a new pulley, larger throttle body and injectors – will give the lucky owner a huge increase over the stock CS700 (offering of 645bhp) to an amazing 700bhp. The cost for this is £15,660 fitted.

The CS700 package installs a Whipple supercharger, the very same piece of kit that the American tuning experts have been using for years – but with EU specification. Whipple is a Californian based tuning company with a long history in dragster racing and even drag boats.

Clive Sutton offers further packages at a more reasonable cost too, with the CS500 and CS350 chassis upgrades giving a 30mm lowered ride height courtesy of some smart suspension tweaks and upgrades like adjustable front springs and KW coilovers. This will set you back £950.

The original Mustang evolved from a 1962 2-seater concept and had its place in history set with an early appearance in the 1964 James Bond thriller, Goldfinger. Then in 1968, Bullitt made sure we would never forget the unique sound of that engine as Steve McQueen drove a GT 390 in one of the most famous movie car chase scenes ever.

The Ford Mustang has clearly come a long way since then, but it still manages to be one of the most exciting iconic cars out there thanks to the effort of teams like Sutton Bespoke.
