Working with Performance Direct, I get to cover a lot of events, but Modified Nationals has always been my favourite.

It’s always big with a huge club turn out, live stages and a great atmosphere. Having part of it under cover also helps when the weather turns a little British as it has for the last couple of years. No problems with that this time around though as the sun shone from Saturday morning to Sunday night, helping to dry out the eager campers who pitched their tents in Friday night’s slightly less pleasant weather.

For  a show of this scale we had three photographers on the ground over the weekend with Darren Skidmore, Grant Buchanan and myself fanned out over the East Of England Showground to be able to give you the full flavour.

New this year was the addition of the Hot Rod, Custom and American Car Show. It’ll be interesting to see what each scene took away from the other to use in future builds. In fact, some white walled tyres and shotgun shell casings were hastily added to this VW before the weekend was out.

Even though it’s not exactly American, this Datsun had some US style low rider tricks up it’s sleeve in the Top 50 concourse.

The American Car Show had it’s own indoor area too with some incredible cars on show as well. The sheer amount of work needed to qualify for the Best In Britain trophy was plain to see.

And you can’t have an American car show with out the ultimate American car. The ‘Stang!

There was also a live stage with a range of rockabilly bands. Meanwhile, on the outdoor stage, car show favourites Richie Don and MC Stallion did their thing.

And of course the Performance Direct promo girls, Faye and Michelle were on site all weekend adding a little glamour.

If Euro or Jap is more your scene, the Autoglym Top 25 would have been more up your street with some incredible attention to detail.

There were some very nervous looking owners watching closely as this monster trucked squeaked its way between the finalists.

And what would be a modified car show without the girls? The Maxxis babes Nickie-Ann and Laura were handing out posters and posing for pictures…
