For the large majority of us, driving – let alone owning – one of Jaguar’s legendary E-Types is a pipe dream. However, the next best thing is this handsome hunk of metal – the Eagle Spyder GT, which begins life as an original E-Type ready to be restored.
East Sussex-based Eagle has used the E-Type as a basis for its cars for some years now, and it has just commenced customer deliveries for the Spyder GT.
Engine
It uses a 4.7-litre XK engine, delivering 330bhp and an impressive 340lb ft of torque through a five-speed manual gearbox to drive the rear wheels and get the car up to 60mph in under five seconds, with a top speed of more than 170mph. The fact that the car weighs just over a ton – 1,029kg – means that it should be an absolute hoot out on the open road too.
Weight is kept to a minimum thanks to extensive use of aluminium; it’s all over the place. There’s a bespoke aluminium monocoque, aluminium gearbox, aluminium engine block and magnesium components.
Only a few of these hand-crafted lightweight roadsters will be produced, making the Spyder GT one of the most exclusive hand built cars in the world.
Bespoke Interior
As such, everything in the car is bespoke, from the sumptuous leather to the gorgeous sweeping centre console, complete with hidden handbrake lever. We’ve yet to see any Spyder GTs in the flesh but the attention to detail and level of finish throughout looks absolutely breathtaking in these pictures.
Henry Pearman, Managing Director at Eagle, said: “We’re really proud of what’s been achieved with our E-Type Special Editions, and the worldwide reaction has made all the years of effort and dedication completely worthwhile.
“The Spyder GT represents the very best of what we do here at Eagle and we’re thrilled to present it to the world.”
So you want one eh? You’ll need to find £695,000 from somewhere first but considering E-Types have been known to change hands for £6 million, that seems a very reasonable asking price.

Why spend this amount of money on a recon E type when you can buy a Jaguar XK8 for less than £2000. Its just as good looking has 300bhp with shear luxury, better fuel consumption and equal performance. It will eventually have the same status especially the convertible which is slightly more expensive at the moment.
Anybody that spends £6 million on an E type must have serious mental problems
