Ferrari may be one of the world’s most famous supercar names but it certainly isn’t synonymous with commercial vehicles. Nevertheless, one supercar workshop in London has had a go at converting a Ferrari 412 into a pick-up truck.

As part of the new History Channel television show, Ultimate Wheels, the London Supercar Workshop, a sister operation to the London Motor Museum, crafted the 1989 Ferrari 412 conversion with a view to making it usable as a builder’s vehicle.

The conversion looks like a mix between a hot rod and a practical pick up, with its shotgun scoop bonnet and bespoke exhaust system. At the mere flick of a switch, the driver can select between a growling exhaust or a quieter sound, for when it is driving in London’s more high end streets. Also, the shotgun scoop can be moved up and down depending on the driver’s needs.

Elo, owner and founder of the workshop, worked with mechanic Will Trickett in crafting the vehicle so that it would be suited to London’s high end building tradesmen, particularly following the recent housing boom in the capital and the taste that homeowners seem to have for property conversions.

To create the bizarre vehicle, the two technicians began by slicing off 300mm of the roof using an angle grinder and moving everything forward. This was so they could create the load bed at the back, which measures at three feet.

So that the car could get a more high end feel, the rear bed has been decked out with teak panelling as inspired by luxury yachts.

The rear suspension has also been jacked up so that the car can carry heavier loads.

Speaking about the place of the Ferrari conversion in the show, Elo said: “This is one of my favourite cars of the TV series – something truly unique and even experienced Ferrari technicians like what we’ve done. The rest of the series sees us work on a VW camper, a Ford Mustang, a Group B rally-inspired Audi, a unique Bristol and many more amazing conversions.”
