The Cholmondeley Pageant of Power is returning in 2012 and this year the event will play host to a showcase of classic vehicles, including the milestone 50th anniversary of the iconic AC Cobra.
Set to run from June 15th to 17th in the grounds of Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire, the Anglo-American sports car is to receive a fanfare welcome from classic car enthusiasts at this year’s event, with a one-off racing class designated for the weekend – the AC Cobra 50th Anniversary Class.
This special event will feature Cobras from around the world competing for top honours, including one of only three ‘lightweight Cobras’ that were ever built.
James Hall, event director for the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power, said: “The first AC Cobra was sold in 1962 and we are proud to celebrate the anniversary of a world-famous motoring icon.
“This car has earned something of a cult following over the last 50 years, both through its GT racing pedigree and towering on-road presence. The Cobras will make a thrilling addition to the 2012 Pageant.”
The Mark I AC Cobra dominated the US and international racing circuits in the 1960s, while the AC Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe – twice-winner of the 12 Hours of Sebring GT class event – was one of the most successful endurance sports cars during the decade.
Furthermore, the Mark III AC Cobra held the honour of being the most powerful production car in the world upon its release in 1965.
Fans of classic motorsport might also like to head to the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power this year to enjoy a race with a difference. The National Autograss will be taking centre stage, with more than 200 races taking place during the weekend.
Running on an approximately 400 m oval grass circuit, racing classes are set to include everything from new minis or small hatchbacks through to single-seaters with monster V8 engines.
