Ford fans, assemble! A remarkable Ford F-150 pick-up that was bought first-hand by David Beckham is going to be the star of an exclusive auction, which is part of the International Ford Show. All allusions to The Avengers aside, the model is going to be one of the highlights of the Ford-only auction, which will take place on 30th April.
How do you know it actually belonged to the former England star? It comes with paper trail proof in the form of the original V5, although apparently it isn’t autographed, it just has his name printed on it. Altogether there will be 29 classic Fords sold at the hotly anticipated auction, which will kick-start at 3pm at Sandown Park in Surrey.
Of course, it’s not just Becks’ pick-up that avid fans will be clamouring over, others in the auction include a Ford Talladega Cobra Jet, which is even more rare than a goalkeeper scoring the winning goal for England in a World Cup. This model was purpose-built as a showroom racecar and has links to the NASCAR teams of 1969, so enthusiasts of rallying will be fond of this one. The Cobra Jet took the first part of its name from the Talladega Superspeedway racetrack in Alabama, which also made its debut in 1969.
A model that that we’re really excited about a true one-off – it’s an American Ford right-hand-drive Mustang convertible. It was built at the factory in Dearborn, Michigan as a special order for Ford UK’s managing director, it was then given to him as a New Year’s gift at the start of 1971. Although it wasn’t technically a surprise, we reckon it was still pretty awesome to receive that as a present.
Frontrunners for strong bids at the auction include a low mileage 1987 Fiesta XR2, a rare 1960 Consul Farnham Estate and – the best of the bunch – a b.e.a.utiful Mk 1 Cortina 1500GT De Tomaso.
This Cortina was built only for the Italian market in 1963, so you’re highly unlikely to pass by another one on the road.
Advance tickets for the weekend event are available for £10 for single day access, or £20 for the whole show and either can be bought at the International Ford Show website.
