The Delhi Motor Show this month will see the release of the latest concept SUV design from German manufacturers Volkswagen.
It is an updated version of a similar model unveiled in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and it is set to increase the company’s presence in the larger vehicle market.
Known as the Taigun, the compact SUV comes with a 1.0-litre, turbocharged engine, delivering 110 PS, and 175 Nm of torque at 1,500 revs.
With a fuel tank capacity of 50 litres and a range of around 1,000 kilometres, it is also set to challenge other similar vehicles when it comes to efficient performance, emitting 110g/km of CO2 to push the boundaries of clean driving in an SUV.
According to Volkswagen, the model is no slouch either. It can go from 0 to 100 kmh in just 9.2 seconds, which is impressive for a vehicle with such muscle.
Volkswagen says the car is designed for the urban jungle, thanks to its 17-inch alloy wheels and chunky tyres. But it can easily be taken off-road, with drivers benefitting from its excellent engine torque and high ground clearance.
It also comes with powerful disc brakes which will be extremely helpful to the driver regardless of the terrain. An electronic stability system also helps to minimise the chance of skidding when behind the wheel.
The model has been designed to evoke power and confidence with a sporty edge. The silhouette is intended to be completely recognisable, thanks to the slanted surface below the side windows and what the constructors describe as a “character line” connecting the front to the rear of the concept.
Sportiness is enhanced through the rugged side trims and the vehicle’s short overhangs. This also helps to utilise the available space.
It comes with practical roof rails for those who like to go on an adventure. These feature integrated LED spotlights to make it that much more impressive when seen from the side.
The front of the car creates a bold statement, with the horizontal lines of the integrated front grille and headlights either side making it look wider and more commanding that it already is. This is also achieved by the LED daytime running lights accentuating the features.
Around the back of the car, it is characterised by the exterior spare tyre. The boot is opened by lifting the top-hinged rear screen with mounted spoiler and swinging open the back panel.
Moving inside, the designers have endeavoured to create the spirit of the urban world. The feel of the surfaces has been designed to appeal to those with smartphones and other touch screen technologies.
The colour and trim is also intended to reflect both elegance and sporty function, while orange piping offsets the beige seats.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an SUV without excellent interior space. Volkswagen claims the concept can deliver 280 litres of boot space. However, with the rear seats folded down, this can be increased to an impressive 996 litres.
It also comes with a centrally located infotainment system for music, navigation and other features while on the move.
