Every car fan has their favourite shows they don’t want to miss, but what are the true ultimate ones that would make it on to the bucket list if money was no object?
Of course, the US boasts a very impressive calendar of motor shows so let’s start with the best events across the Atlantic.
Where better to enjoy looking at some of the world’s finest cars than on the northern California coast – Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is held every year in August and is a must see for fans of real muscle and classic American cars.
Of course if you are in the mood to buy a car then the famous Barrett-Jackson auction qualifies as a car show. Lasting over a week, the event is hosted by auction house Barrett-Jackson and is based in Scottsdale in Arizona. Last year, the bidding was particularly frantic and a 1967 Corvette fetched an impressive $3.85 million.
The auction is also a must if you like a bit of celebrity spotting as it usually attracts high numbers of famous car collectors and fans including Jay Leno and Alice Cooper.
If you want to see some cars in action then perhaps watching some NASCAR action is on your bucket list. The iconic Daytona 500 has been taking place since 1959 and the Florida 500-mile track race is the opener to every NASCAR season.
Of course, the rest of the world has plenty to offer when it comes to motor shows and one of the top events in Europe is held every May in Brescia. It boasts some top vintage cars and drivers make a 1,000 mile trip to Rome and back – this means they are welcomed back to Brescia by vast crowds.
If you like endurance races, then Gumball is a must! An eclectic bunch of drivers and vehicles make the trip from various places in Europe – this year it was Stockholm in Sweden – to Las Vegas. Every time it arrives in a town or city, it is quite the supercar fest. Over the years it has featured a Ferrari 458 and a custom build McLaren MP4-12. If you are holidaying in Europe, or the US at the right time then make sure you take the time to cross paths with the iconic race.
However, if you aren’t planning to take a trip overseas for a car show this year, then there is one major highlight on the UK motor calendar.
Goodwood Revival will start on September 12th this year and is three days filled with the very best in classic motor history.
Many attendees take to dressing in period costume for the event and there is a whole host of classic vehicles from 1948 to 1966.
It is important to remember that it isn’t just the big name motor shows that provide a great day out – there are plenty of smaller events organised by local clubs throughout the year that are certainly worth attending – even if they don’t feature on everyone’s bucket list.
