A special one-off Lotus Evora Sport 410 has been built in tribute to the Lotus Esprit S1 – one of the Norwich-based manufacturer’s most famous cars.
The Esprit S1 was immortalised in 1977’s Bond film ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’, when it famously transformed into a submarine, helping Roger Moore’s 007 escape the villainous Jaws.
Sadly, there’s no aquatic action to be had in this new special edition Lotus but the unique car is a stunning tribute with its special design touches.
Worthy tribute
The one-of-a-kind Evora Sport 410 features a colour-coded bumper at the front end, while the one-piece carbon-fibre tailgate is part keyed white to give the illusion of a traditional liftback.
A black coach line delineates the car’s waist, while the B pillar sports a bespoke badge script in the style of the original Esprit’s graphics.
Inside, ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ theme continues with tartan trim on the insert panels of the carbon-fibre sports seats and door cards, while red contrast stitching complements the Alcantara dashboard and console finish.
Underneath all this retro spy styling is the same Evora Sport 410, which launched in October 2016, with production capped at just 150 examples a year.
Powered by a supercharged 3.5-litre six-pot engine with 420Nm of torque, the car marries a light curb weight (1,280kg) with heavy power (404bhp) to achieve a 0-62mph sprint of just 3.9 seconds. This means it is “refined on B-roads but blisteringly fast when needed”, according to Lotus.
Jean-Marc Gales, CEO of Group Lotus plc, added: “So many of us recall the impact of the Lotus Esprit when it hit the big screen in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ and we wanted to honour that with a special Evora Sport 410.
“It’s the perfect tribute to such an influential Lotus, but a world away in terms of its abilities and performance. Supremely fast and agile, rivals’ cars look overweight and underpowered in comparison. Lotus was founded on the principle of lightweight engineering and, even today, nobody does it better.”
