BMW’s M3 hot saloon has been given the lightest of facelifts for 2017.
After applying minor updates to the 4 Series and M4 Coupe in January, BMW has gifted its iconic high performance saloon new headlights and err, nothing else really.
New tail-lights were introduced to the M3 in 2015 and the ever-so-slightly revised front-end sees the arrival of new LED hexagonal lights with the same lighting signature as the latest 5 Series.
As a result, placing the old alongside the revised model is like the world’s toughest game of spot the difference.
Under the bonnet is the same engine as before: a three-litre twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder unit, producing 425bhp.
Previously, it could get the M3 up to 62mph in 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 155mph, and it is highly unlikely that will have changed with the minor revisions.
Adding the Competition Pack boosts power output by 20bhp, which helps snip the 0-62mph sprint to bang-on four seconds.
In a way, you can’t blame BMW for being lazy when facelifting the M3. It was already pretty brilliant car anyway and with a new 3 Series due in 2018, an all-new M3 is likely to follow the year after. For the time being, we’ll be more than happy to put up with this slick saloon for another two years.
