Not an unusual sight to behold in the UK, but how did this happen?Over the past few decades, the increase of German motors driving on British roads has been outstanding. In 2016, you can’t drive down the road without seeing one! It made us think, out of all the German cars, which is the best? We decided to pick our favourite models from Audi, BMW and Mercedes and see which comes out on top! BMW i8When you think of fast cars, you don’t immediately think of the electric BMW i8, but you should. This innovative vehicle hits 60mph in just 4.4 seconds and without being an environmental activist, you can really enjoy the engineering that has gone into this car. The i8 has a striking design but is still clearly part of the BMW family, at night you can even enjoy the light up accents that give the car a futuristic feel, some would say it is reminiscent of ‘Blade Runner’.Everyday driving in this car is quite a joy, it’s comfortable, extremely economical with the ability to go 15 miles just on the electric charge.Essentially the i8 uses a reworked engine from the entry-level Mini Cooper combined to an electric motor at the front axle. Mated with a seven speed gearbox, this beast delivers 227bhp. Although new to the supercar market, it has certainly made a lasting impression. Mercedes AMG GT The Mercedes AMG GT is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo, producing 462bhp taking the GT to 60mph in 3.8 seconds.It’s not just the beautiful and distinctive design which made us pick this out of all the other Mercedes models, the handling is sharp and extremely stable. Whilst being astounding on the track it still manages to be a great cruiser with the suspension having just the right amount of firmness, making it a comfortable ride.The front-engined, two-seat coupé isn’t too bad on fuel considering the beastly V8 engine. It is actually more efficient than the Porsche 911 GTS or Audi R8! The standard AMG GT has LED headlamps, satellite navigation, limited-slip differential and carbon composite brakes, which is actually far more than its rivals.Overall this is definitely a stunning car worthy of bearing the Mercedes badge. Audi R8Last, but by no means least, we have the Audi R8. The new second generation R8 is a complete re-do of the original R8 with Audi dropping the V8 engine altogether and opting for two V10 outputs, 540bhp and 610bhp, taking only 3.5 seconds in the standard model to reach 62mph.The styling of car is jaw-droppingly beautiful, it’s grounded and sharp enough to cut your hand on.There has been no holds barred when it comes to the interior, it offers a ‘Virtual Cockpit’ which combines standard dials and an ‘infotainment’ display into a 12.3 inch screen which sits neatly in front of the driver. The R8 has quickly become an iconic car and is easily the most recognisable out of this list but that doesn’t mean that it’s the best. The Conclusion “So who is the winner?” I hear you cry! Well it’s an extremely tough call. We have three extremely powerful cars with extremely good reputations but only one can succeed. For us it has to be… the… BMW i8! Although it isn’t the fastest or the most powerful, it has the most potential and has definitely set the standard for the future generations of supercars. Don’t know about you but we can’t wait to see what the next few years hold for the motoring industry!"},{"@context":"https://schema.org/","@type":"BreadcrumbList
@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
BMW vs. Mercedes vs. Audi
https://smart-motoring.com/latest-news/cars/sports-performance-and-prestige-cars/bmw-vs-mercedes-vs-audi/#breadcrumbitem"}]}]
