Bentley has really been breaking new ground in the past year. First, it introduces its first ever SUV – the monstrous Bentayga – and now, it has announced it will sell the world’s fastest and most powerful luxury four-seater: the Continental Supersports.
It’s super by name and super by nature so brace yourself for some staggering numbers.
Power
Under the hood is a mighty six-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine, sending a colossal 700bhp and up to 750lb ft (or 1,017 Nm) of torque through a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox to all four wheels.
This is enough oomph to get it to 62mph in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 209mph.
It’s the same W12 engine in the range-topping Bentayga, but it has been redeveloped with new high performance turbos, engine hardware and a torque vectoring system to make the Supersports model as agile as it is powerful.
A soft-top convertible version will be available too, but the extra weight of the electronically folding fabric roof stretches its 0-62mph sprint to 3.9 seconds and snips its top speed to 205mph. Still, crikey!
The supercar pace and driver-focused experience isn’t at the expense of ride quality though, which is said to be as luxurious as ever, ensuring long distances are covered in supreme comfort.
Design
Exterior design has been upgraded to reflect its performance superiority. Changes include newly sculpted front and rear bumpers to incorporate a carbon-fibre splitter and diffuser respectively, new side sill extensions and bonnet vents also finished in carbon-fibre, gloss-black front wing vents and a new gloss black rifled exhaust tailpipe design.
Buyers can choose to add black 21-inch forged alloy wheels, an aerodynamically balanced rear spoiler and front splitter or a gloss-finished carbon-fibre engine cover.
Inside, there’s a typically lavish list of bespoke styling details available, such as a new diamond-quilted design, incorporated in the seats and door side panels for a unique signature in Alcantara. Elsewhere, there are chequered Supersports carbon-fibre fascia panels in addition to the existing list of ten veneers and technical finishes available.
The interior is completed by new Supersports emblem stitching and a bespoke Supersports steering wheel and unique gearlever, both featuring Alcantara accents.
Price
Prices for the coupe Continental Supersports start at £212,500, rising to £233,800 for convertible models and orders can be placed now with the first deliveries coming in the spring.
