Audi has revealed all on the forthcoming A7 Sportback, which is due to hit UK roads this spring.

Here’s all you need to know about the executive class five-seat coupé…

Exterior design

Style-wise, the only significant design feature to be carried over from the previous A7 Sportback is the car’s rakish silhouette, while incorporating plenty of hallmarks from Audi’s current design language.

As you’d expect from a grand Audi cruiser, there are large surfaces, sharp edges and athletic lines – features which devolve from the Prologue concept car, shown off way back in 2014.

One of the A7 Sportback’s key defining features is a flat light strip, which creates a continuous light pattern across the rear. This same feature appears on the A8 and will be used to denote models in the upper reaches of the Audi range.

More funky light business occurs when the doors are unlocked and locked again, with the rear lights flashing a fast-moving light animation.

Inside

If the exterior projects a futuristic impression, then so too does the interior.

The reduced, clean design language of the outside is carried inside, with an emphasis on horizontal lines and a sleek instrument panel adding to the feeling of airy spaciousness.

Rear passengers can expect more knee room, thanks to a 21mm increase to the overall length, as well as greater head room.

A three-seat rear bench is standard for UK models, and when its backrest is folder flat, the luggage compartment capacity expands from 535 litres to 1,390 litres.

Engines

Buyers can choose between a pair of three-litre all-wheel-drive V6 engines: a 286PS diesel linked to an eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox, and a 340PS petrol with a seven-speed S tronic.

With speed capped at 155mph, the diesel can race up to 62mph in 5.7 seconds, while the petrol snips that to 5.3 seconds.

On 19-inch wheels, the diesel can return 50.4mpg on a combined cycle at 147g/km CO2 emissions, with the petrol reporting 40.4mpg at 158g/km CO2.
