There will be celebrations all round at Silverstone this weekend as July 4th sees the iconic British racing track hosting its 50th Grand Prix.
To mark the occasion, there will be a select parade of high profile Formula One cars that will be coming to the track for the weekend.
This weekend’s race puts Silverstone up there in an exclusive group that has seen as many Grand Prix events. These tracks include Monaco, Monza, Nurburgring and Spa-Francorchamps.
There will be a large array of three-litre cars that that will be taking to the track during the parade on Sunday, which will be donned with period livery from the time considered to be sport’s true golden age.
Cars that will be on show include the JPS Lotus 72 of Katsu Kabota, Jeremy Smith’s orange March 240 6-wheeler and the 1985 Minardi driven by Nathan Kinch. This is a car that has not been seen on the race track for a number of years.
Modern-day racer Stuart Hall will also be joining in the festivities in the McLaren M19A from the RofGo collection, which won the 1972 South African Grand Prix when driven by Denny Hulme.
Among the brands that will have representatives attending Silverstone will be our friends over at Grove & Dean Private Clients and Grove & Dean Motorsport. Be sure to visit their stand and don’t miss out on the opportunity to see some real classics, up close and personal!
Yet this weekend is not the only time this month when Silverstone will be celebrating its 50th Grand Prix as there will also be a world record parade of these racing cars coming to the track as part of the annual Silverstone Classic between July 25th and 27th.
A total of 100 race cars will be involved in the parade, spanning 40 years of the Grand Prix history at Silverstone.
Speaking about the record-breaking parade, event director Nick Wigley said: “It’s going to be a very fitting tribute to Silverstone and, of course, an amazing spectacle. When has anyone ever seen – let alone heard – a hundred Grand Prix cars all on the track at the same time?”
