The latest release from SEAT offers customers the perfect blend of performance and carbon efficiency, in one stylish little package.
Powered by a 1.4 TSI engine, the new SEAT Ibiza FR Edition comes with the manufacturer’s latest innovation in fuel efficient technology.
The vehicle is spearheading SEAT’s Active Cylinder Technology (ACT), which can help to significantly cut down on fuel consumption.
While many will think firing on all cylinders is the best option for top performance, SEAT has taken that idea and turned it on its head. The car is equipped with four cylinders, but needs only a couple to get started and to use at certain speeds and performance levels.
This means that the machine is able to minimise its fuel consumption, resulting in a much more efficient drive.
But how does it work?
The engine shuts off the second and third cylinders when engine speeds are low and when minimum torque is required. However, when there is a distinct need for more power, they will come back to life in a completely seamless fashion, offering more torque when it is required.
It takes just 40 milliseconds to make the transition from two to four cylinders and can save you up to one litre of fuel over 60 miles of what SEAT describes as “careful urban driving”.
However, that doesn’t mean it has had to make a huge sacrifice when it comes to ability. The TSI ACT engine in the new Ibiza FR Edition can produce 140PS – just 10 PS fewer than the outgoing non-ACT powertrain.
This means it can race from 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds (0.2 seconds longer than the outgoing version) while offering a huge 12.2 mpg more average efficiency. It’s surely not too much of an ask to sacrifice 0.2 seconds for a more economical car?
Furthermore, it offers a staggering improvement when it comes to CO2 emissions, producing 30g/km less waste than its predecessor, down to just 109g/km.
The model comes with manual transmission and is now above the standard FR in the Ibiza range.
As well as the changes in technology, the car comes with additions to the standard specification over the FR. The Edition will add red seatbelts, red brake callipers, titanium-coloured 17-inch alloy wheels, climate control and dark tinted rear windows.
There will also be three body styles available, including the SC, five-door and ST, offering excellent choice depending on your tastes and needs.
So what are you waiting for? The new Ibiza FR Edition is available to order now. However, you’ll have to wait until June to experience this new technology for yourself.
