SEAT has been proudly boasting about its latest Leon Cupra model in recent weeks, heralding it as the fastest and most powerful series production car it has ever made.
Customers who have already placed an order for the machine should expect to see deliveries very soon, but some SEAT fans have been a little impatient.
With that in mind, the manufacturer invited two SEAT enthusiasts to take part in a unique experience, offering an ‘extreme simulator’ experience.
We’ve all seen the big metal pods at air shows, festivals and museums, that visitors can go in and experience the thrill of flying a plane, or shooting up to space. Those inside then get to watch a virtual representation of it on a big screen, while the pod moves and shakes to match the movements.
Well, this is exactly what SEAT offered for their expectant customers. Kind of…
After putting on their helmets and strapping themselves into the simulator, the screens lit up to begin the experience.
What they didn’t know was that the crafty folk at SEAT opened the back of a simulator where an actual version of Leon Cupra was located. It then rolled out of the pod and began it’s unique adventure.
With the passengers in the back seat of the blacked out cabin watching the screen, they had no idea an actual driver was on the other side of the partition.
Attached to the front of the car was a camera, which streamed live footage to the people in the back.
They then watched as a red SEAT pulled up in front of the car, before it spun away and a dramatic chase ensued. What they didn’t realise was that they were actually a part of it.
The SEAT Leon Cupra demonstrated its agility as it manoeuvred through the obstacles present at the dockside location, while its impressive speed was clearly on display as it raced after the leading car.
At the end of the adrenaline pumping chase, the driver of the red car opened the back door for the passengers, who then realised what had just happened.
The energy and excitement of the Leon Cupra is achieved with the addition of a 2.0-litre engine, with a 265PS or 280PS version available.
This helps the car to sprint from 0-62mph in just 5.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of 155mph.
While this is some impressive pace, drivers will also be thrilled that fuel consumption stands at 42.2mpg – unprecedented for a vehicle of its performance calibre.
Jurgen Stackmann, chief executive of SEAT S.A, said the brand is making a “major leap forward” with this latest model, combining “expressive dynamics” in addition to “relaxed long-distance comfort”.
“Driving fun and great design comes with every Leon, but the new Cupra displays SEAT expertise in a whole new dimension. We are proud of this new brand icon and certain of its success,” he added.
Although drivers won’t be able to experience quite the thrill of the chase, the SEAT Leon Cupra packs enough excitement to provide driving pleasure for years to come.
