On August 13th 2012, Rhys Millen of California set a new world record for the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. After trying for years to match the record, set by his father, the accomplishment was achieved with the added bonus of a new world record.
Stopping the clock at 9 minutes and 46 seconds, Millen set the new quickest time triumphing over Romain Dumas, a 2010 winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
This record was only achieved with the aid of Millen’s Hyundai Genesis Coupe; an upgraded, modified, race-prepared motoring machine. Millen spruced the modified beauty by adding a Garrett GTX3582 turbocharger and a new aero package. Redesigning the front splitter allowed more traction and gave agility when racing the car whilst adding a wider rear body kit helped to please the eye.
An ecstatic Millen claimed “We just competed against the best in the world and beat them,” and it didn’t stop there. At the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Rhys Millen continued his lucky, winning streak as he quite deservedly, took first place in round 6 of the Formula Drift competition.
Racing in the trusted Hyundai Genesis Coupe he managed to beat rivals Fredric Aasbo and Vaughn Gittin stealing the lead with over all points.
The next rival drift race will be the Formula Drift Round 7 and the pressure is now on for Millen with the question remaining as to how long can he keep it up!
