Toyota have unleashed an even cooler FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo to be featured in the new game for the PlayStation 3.
The FT-1 sports coupe concept was first shown to the public at this year’s Detroit motor show when a real life prototype was shown off. It then went on to appear in Gran Turismo 6.
This car joined a range of concept vehicles that had been designed exclusively for Gran Turismo, with marques such as Volkswagen, Mercedes and Aston Martin creating their own.
Now an FT-1 designed purely for racing has been designed by Toyota’s CALTY studio in California, which is also set to appear in Gran Turismo.
To create the car, designers looked at real-world race tracks and race cars, using their research to inform the styling of theirs.
They used the basic shape and architecture of the FT-1 and used it to add in extra cooling and downforce elements through the use of a design process that CALTY has called ‘function sculpting’.
Other changes that have been made include wider wheel arches, which allow for larger tyres to be fitted that can in turn give more extreme grip. The car also has larger air intakes for increased cooling, a big spoiler and front Canard fins to give it greater downforce.
At the rear there is also a big diffuser that has multiple fins, which in turn is set further back so that airflow can be cleaner.
The original ambition behind the FT-1 was to design an in-game car that would appeal to die-hard enthusiasts. As a follow up to this, CALTY chose to develop a car that would give a more authentic experience of a race track for serious Gran Turismo fans to enjoy.
Toyota says that every single detail of the FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo has been looked at to make it look and feel like it would if used in a real life race.
The new FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo will be available to download for players of Gran Turismo 6 in September.
