It’s been hotly anticipated and now Peugeot has unveiled full details of its new 108, complete with body styles, specs and prices.
In terms of body, the new city car comes in a choice of three and five doors in Hatch or TOP! Cabrio form. Drivers also have the choice between two petrol engines that are fuel efficient and produce low emissions. These include Peugeot’s naturally aspriated Pure Tech three cylinder unit, which was unveiled recently. The level of emissions produced is as low as approximately 88g/km.
The Peugeot 108 also crosses the boundaries of technology that previously only luxury saloon cars were able to reach, incorporating them into this small economy car. It has a number of entertaining little gadgets such as a seven-inch Infotainment system, a DAB digital Radio, Bluetooth connectivity and Mirror Screen with Mirror Link. All of these can be controlled from a touch of the button while driving as the 108 features steering wheel mounted controls.
There are a number of electrical features that come as standard with the car. These are LED daytime running lights, remote central locking, six airbags, ESP stability control and two ISOFIX mountings at the rear. It also has a USB/auxiliary connection if you fancy plugging in your iPod or smartphone and you can control this from the steering wheel.
But the main thing that Peugeot are trying to push above all else for the 108 is the freedom that owners have to personalise their vehicle. There are a range of colours and ambiences available for the 108. It comes with a choice of four trims that will already be familiar to the Peugeot driver; Access, Active, Allure and Feline. However, those interested in the 108 Hatch will only be able to get the Access trim on the three door version.
The flagship version of the Peugeot 108 comes in Feline trim, which is designed with a feel for luxury in mind. Its interior is decked out with leather upholstery, chrome door handles and mirrors and drivers and passengers alike will enjoy its dual zone air conditioning.
In terms of aesthetics, Active models come with colour-coded door handles and mirrors. Other features include air conditioning, seven-inch infotainment system with a touch-screen and DAB digital radio, height-adjustable driver’s seat, Mirror Screen and Bluetooth.
Meanwhile, the Allure model uses the standard specs and brings them up another step. It comes with 15-inch Thoren alloy wheels, front fog lights, automatic headlights, a reversing camera and electronically heated door mirrors. To give it a slicker look, it comes with a leather steering wheel and gear knob and tinted rear windows. The car also has Peugeot’s Open & Go feature, which allows drivers to unlock their car without the use of a key and start the ignition just by pressing a button.
Those who opt for the 108 TOP! will be able to get the car in either Active or Allure trim. With the release of this car, Peugeot have made a retractable fabric roof available on its smallest vehicle. This can be put up or down at any speed.
