It’s 60 years since the original Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint was launched and, to celebrate, a new model of this car is being rolled out.
As with the original Sprint, this car is powered by an engine of less than 1,400cc in capacity, only this time round it comes with MultiAir valve management and an intercooled turbocharger. Thanks to this feature, its power output is twice that of the 1.3-litre twin-cam engine in the original Sprint.
When the first Sprint was released, it gained popularity with the public because of its relative affordability while also looking stunning. Alfa Romeo say that this is what turned the brand from being a low-volume specialist manufacturer to a well know name from premium cars.
The new Sprint comes with a 1.4-litre TB MultiAir petrol engine that produces 150 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It can go from 0 to 62 mph in only 8.2 seconds and its top speed is 130 mph.
While it can achieve high speeds, it has a combined-cycle fuel efficiency figure of 49.6 mpg and its carbon dioxide emissions sit at 131 g/km.
There are a number of other unique features that the new Sprint comes equipped with. Among these are 17-inch five-hole design alloy wheels, carbon-effect door panels and dashboard surround. There are also bespoke Sprint badges on the front wings.
In the interior of the car the Sprint logo is embroidered into the headrests and the steering wheel is wrapped in leather with red stitching. The seats are covered with cloth and Alcantara upholstery and come with red stitching too.
Enhancements to the Sprint include dark-tinted windows and sports rear bumper side skirts. In terms of technology, the car comes with a dynamic control switch called Alfa D.N.A. and a Uconnect five-inch touchscreen with DAB, Bluetooth, voice commands, USB ports, music streaming, SMS reader and six speakers. The car will be on sale from early 2015 and will be priced from £20,490 OTR.
