McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has unveiled a range of options for those who want to get their hands on a McLaren 650S.
This was done under the newly established MSO Defined division. There have also been options made available for the 625C but this is only available in Asia.
The first range of series options represents the first of five tiers of personalisation and supports that MSO wants to offer, with a view to making cars that suit the needs of any and all McLaren customers.
MSO Defined also joins one-off model specialists MSO Bespoke, MSO Limited which produces limited edition series production cars, MSO Heritage that focuses on maintaining and storing historic cars and MSO Programmes that is responsible for the McLaren P1 GTR. So models released through these divisions could now get complete tailoring.
Speaking about the launch of MSO Defined, executive director of MSO Paul Mackenzie said: “There is a strong desire for drivers to personalise their cars and I’m convinced that the introduction of MSO Defined line will prove popular amongst our customers,
“Every McLaren is unique but now, with more choice than ever before, we are enabling our customers to truly express themselves through their vehicles.”
The MSO Defined range will include a series of options that are available on all new McLaren models. This category of personalisation includes an aerodynamic kit, which enhances design of the McLaren 650S, and subtle carbon fibre interior upgrades. On the outside, customers could opt for a carbon fibre rear diffuser and extended side door blades. Those who follow McLaren may have already spotted the latter when they were premiered on the limited-edition MSO 650S earlier this year.
There are also a number of weight saving options included with MSP Defined, such as a full carbon fibre rear deck and mirror arms. On the interior, there are also extended carbon fibre shift paddles and a redesigned instrument cluster. This cluster has Formula 1 inspired shift lights mounted to it that were created based on a number of requests from enthusiasts about track days.
From MSO Bespoke, customers can get a wide range of customisation, from individual paint jobs to body changes to unique leather and stitching colours and stand-alone upholstery.
There has been a bit of MSO Bespoke in 20 per cent of vehicles produced at the McLaren Production Centre since the launch of 650S earlier this year. For the McLaren P1, this rises to 95 per cent and each of the 375 examples are unique to their owner in one way or another.
Indeed, MSO Limited, MSO Heritage and MSO Programmes have their own options too. MSO Limited has limited-run and special-edition examples of the 650S. From MSO Heritage, customers can enjoy unrivalled knowledge and expertise for McLaren F1 and also Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren models.
Meanwhile, MSO Programmes will be dealing with the upcoming McLaren P1 GTR Driver Programme. MSO Programmes will be building, maintaining and preparing these cars ready for the exclusive track days that make up the programme and which take place on some of the world’s best known Formula 1 tracks.
