The next generation of supermini the Mazda2 is set to be released in Europe and promises to challenge convention with its capabilities and take the B segment by storm.
This five door hatchback will be unveiled to the press at Mazda Space in Barcelona on November 3rd before making a number of appearances at motor shows and other events throughout Autumn and Winter.
Its design draws on the Mazda hazumi concept that was unveiled in Geneva in March this year, with the Mazda2 getting its own KODO – Soul of Motion design. The car also comes with a complete range of SKYACTIV technology.
There are a choice of four engines for the vehicle. One of these is a SKYACTIV-D 1.5 litre low compression clean diesel engine, which can produce 77kW/105ps and maximum torque of 200Nm. Meanwhile, it only uses 3.4/100km of fuel and its carbon dioxide emissions are roughly 89g/km.
For those who look towards the petrol variants, they will be offered the choice of three SKYACTIV-G 1.5 litre versions. These can produce between 55kW/75 ps and 85 kW/115ps and deliver fuel economy between 4.5-4.9/100km. Carbon dioxide emissions from these engines sit at 105-115g/km.
The car is front-wheel drive and powered through a five or six-speed SKYACTIV-MT manual transmission or a six-speed SKYACTIV-Drive automatic. These gearboxes are newly developed, compact and lightweight versions of the gearboxes supplied in other latest generation Mazdas.
On the inside, the car has the intuitive interior that was first seen on the Mazda3, with the Active Driving Display that makes it the first head-up display of this class. There is also a human-machine interface that is specially adapted for the car’s cabin.
Thanks to MZD Connect, this is one of the first B-segment models that can put its driver and passengers online while keeping them completely safe.
In terms of comfort and space, the car excels and offers plenty of legroom for the driver and all passengers in the vehicle.
