If you were thinking of ordering a new Ford Mustang then you’re in for a long wait as people have stampeded to put their names down for one of these cars.
During the first month that the Ford Mustang went on sale in Europe, a total of 500,000 have been designed, specified and priced. It is the first time in the 50-year history of this car that it has been available to order in Europe.
Customers are able to go on the Ford website to build and price their own Mustang to a chosen specification. From mid-January to mid-February, the site attracted more than 1.1 million visits. More Mustang models have been specified than any other Ford vehicle.
Half of all customers opted for the version of the Mustang that comes with the 314 PS 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine. The other half opted for the 418 PS 5.0-litre V8 engine.
Vice president for marketing, sales and service of Ford Europe, Roelant de Waard, said: “The rush to configure Mustang online represents 50 years of pent up demand across Europe.”
“For some people, the new Mustang is the car they have waited for their whole lives.”
Indeed, the specification that was most popular overall in Europe was the model with the EcoBoost engine attached to six-speed manual transmission. This specification was selected for 37 per cent of models configured. Two-thirds of models specified have manual transmissions.
The colours that have proved to be most popular among European buyers are Race Red and black, each being selected by 20 per cent of buyers.
On the inside, 61 per cent of buyers opted for the ebony leather interior finish. Of these, 28 per cent opted for a custom pack, which includes climate controlled seats, reverse parking sensors, Lustre Nickel multi-spoke 19 inch alloy wheels, side window chrome surrounds and a Shaker Pro premium audio system with navigation.
As standard, the new Ford Mustang includes such features as automatic xenon headlamps, a performance brake package, 19 inch wheels and a rear diffuser.
