Range Rover has announced the company plans to unveil its new Evoque convertible concept model at the upcoming Geneva International Motor Show, which will be taking place from March 8th to 18th.

Building on the global success of the Evoque brand, Range Rover hopes its new convertible model will also capture the imagination of buyers with its bold design and distinctive looks.

The new concept incorporates functionality with flair, the company states, featuring a retractable aluminium roof and Roll Over Protection System. In addition, the new model is available with a foldable tailgate and both two and four-seat options.

However, these changes have resulted in minimal weight gain and torsional rigidity losses, continuing to offer motorists a commanding driving position and all-terrain capabilities.

John Edwards, Land Rover global brand director, said: "The Evoque convertible concept is a new twist to the Evoque story and explores the potential to further extend the nameplate's appeal by giving existing customers more choice, whilst at the same time reaching out to a completely new customer base."

The new convertible will follow in the footsteps of the Evoque, which was launched six months ago and is now available in more than 170 countries around the world. However, plans to put the concept into full production have not yet been announced by Range Rover, with this primary release highlighted as an engineering and design study.

Earlier this month, the production Evoque was named Car of the Year 2012 by visitors to the MSN Cars automotive website.

With favourable votes by more than 30,000 individuals, the vehicle brushed aside competition from other popular models including the Aston Martin Virage and McLaren MP4-12C.

"The enthusiasm for this global smash hit is palpable. It has gorgeous looks and strong performance both on and off the road," noted Tom Evans, managing editor of MSN Cars.
